Franklin alumni triathlon set for Aug. 20

The Franklin High School Alumni Triathlon will be held Aug. 20 at the high school.

Check in is at 5 p.m. and the swimming event begins at 6. After swimming 250 meters, competitors will bike 7 miles and run 2 miles.

Current and former Franklin athletes and faculty members from the district are invited to take part. Family members are also welcome.

Donations to the cross country program will be accepted, and food and beverages will be served after the event.

Oak Creek Soccer Club in need of U10 players

The Oak Creek Soccer Club is looking for players to fill its U10 roster.

Players born between Aug. 1, 2000, and July 31, 2002, are eligible. Online registration is available at oakcreeksoccerclub.org. Additional questions should be referred to the Oak Creek Soccer Club at (414) 573-8875.

Register by Aug. 20.

Special Olympics athletes compete in state tournament

More than 2,000 people gathered in Eau Claire to compete, coach or volunteer in the 2010 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Outdoor Sports Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Among them were four athletes from Greendale and Oak Creek and three from Franklin who competed in sports such as softball, tee ball, bocce, golf and tennis.

Oak Creek's Chris Hansen was a winner in the Golf Level 2 alternate shot team play. Taking second in the same event was Oak Creek's Don Bisgard; Megan Bisgard was fourth.

Melissa Berry, also from Oak Creek, was third in softball tee ball.

Greendale's Eric Lemke, Daniel Mersman, Adam Pethes and Sarah Mersman were third in softball tee ball, as were Franklin's Roger Zientek Jr., Craig Zientek and Stacy Welk.
