School Board accepts principal's resignation

Sudden July 4 meeting offered no fireworks

July 8, 2009

Forest Park Middle School Principal Matt Lesar is leaving to become the principal at Nathan Hale High School in West Allis. His resignation became official at an impromptu Franklin School Board meeting July 4.

Lesar needed the board to approve his resignation before he could sign a contract with West Allis. Since the board didn't have another regular meeting scheduled until the end of July, a special meeting had to be called under short notice, according to board president Dave Szchlinski.

The meeting, which lasted just one minute, was intentionally held shortly before Franklin's Fourth of July parade.

"It's tough to get people together in the summer," Szchlinski said. "Since the board was in the parade, it made sense because we were all going to be in the area."

Two board members were unable to attend, but the resignation was approved 5-0.

"He's (Lesar) been with the district for a long time," Szchlinski said. "Now he has a new opportunity in West Allis and we, of course, wish him well."

The middle school's Web site wishes Lesar luck and success as he moves forward and thanks him for his dedication during his time in Franklin.

The district will begin the process of finding his replacement in the coming weeks.
