Community can contribute to interactive Hales Corners map
MyHalesCornersNOW.com is offering schools, local organizations, businesses and residents to make their mark on a new interactive community map that has just been added to the Web site.
The new Your Map feature allows anyone to add a school, church, business or local landmark on a shared Google map. And once you've plotted your location, you can add a photo or even a video, and let others to make comments about that location.
And even though the map has been online for less than a week, dozens of Hales Corners residents have already added numerous locations - from local schools and parks to well-known businesses.
"Your Map is a great way to for Hales Corners residents to share unique aspects of their community with the rest of the city - and the world," said Mark Maley, NOW Online Editor. "For example, local history buffs can add landmarks to the map and then include photos or a detailed history of the building."
The map is part of a national universal map called Stickymap that was developed by two Yale University graduates in an effort to encourage the public to share their neighborhoods.
"We're thrilled to be working with MyHalesCornersNOW.com to bring Stickymap to the community," said Max Sklar, one of the founders of Stickymap. "The content on the map is entirely user-generated, and visitors to MyHalesCornersNOW.com are encouraged to post information about the places they know best.
"Non-profit groups, business associations, foundations, teachers and others can use the map to demonstrate their impact in their community by showing where partnerships and projects are located," Sklar added. "It's an interesting and informative way for people to learn about local neighborhoods."
