Concerts in the Garden kicks into gear Thursday
MSO leads off summer of free outdoor performances
Hales Corners - The Boerner Botanical Gardens is kicking off its Concert in the Gardens series tonight with a performance by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
The Concert in the Gardens performances occur every Thursday from June 14 through Aug. 30. With the exception of tonight's concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., the concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and end about 8:30 p.m.
"We have up to 5,000 people coming for the opening night performance by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra," said Jeff Baudry, marketing manager at Milwaukee County Parks.
Admission to the park for summer concerts is free after 6 p.m., and attendees are welcome to walk through the gardens afterward at no cost.
This summer's lineup includes Daryl Stuermer from Genesis, Sam Llanas of The BoDeans, New York recording artist Grace Weber and the play "High School Musical" put on by Milwaukee's Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, among others.
The Concerts in the Gardens are sponsored by Wimmer Communities. Baudry said Boerner would not be able to get the great musical talent they receive without them.
"We try to mix up the variety of music every year," Baudry said. "Usually we aim to incorporate Milwaukee musicians and different genres of music."
Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the concerts courtesy of Bartolotta Catering. Guests are allowed to bring along their own food and a blanket or lawn chair for seating.
Boerner is just one of several Milwaukee County Parks hosting concerts this summer.
"These concerts are really about getting out and enjoying your Milwaukee County Parks," Baudry said. "They are an opportunity to get active with your family in the parks or to sit back and listen to some great music with your family, friends and neighborhoods."
