Ward to run against Lazich in Senate race

Greendale - Resident Jim Ward announced that he will run as a Democrat against state Sen. Mary Lazich, R-New Berlin, for the 28th District seat.

"I want to give my neighbors a choice that they haven't had for years in our district," said Ward.

Lazich has been in the Senate for the last 14 years and ran unopposed in the past two elections.

Ward graduated from Marquette University with a degree in history and education. He has been a teacher for 13 years; the past 12 years he has taught at Milwaukee Academy of Science, a charter school. Jim and his wife, Tricia, are homeowners in Greendale.

Free previews offered on MPTV's village episode

Greendale - A new Milwaukee Public Television series, Around the Corner with John McGivern, will preview an episode about Greendale at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 27 at the Greendale Visitor Center, 5602 Broad St.

Both previews are free and open to the public.

The series looks at life in 13 southeastern Wisconsin communities, exploring what it is like to live, work and play in each area. The Greendale episode premieres at 7:30 p.m. April 5 on MPTV HD 10.1 and 8 p.m. April 6 on MPTV HD 36.1.

Comic actor McGivern goes behind-the-scenes to find the unique aspects of each community. The 30-minute episodes feature area residents, businesses and favorite pastimes as well as some background information from historian John Gurda. McGivern and Gurda will be on hand for questions and comments after the previews. Seating will be on a first-come basis.

Hales Corners Lutheran School recognized as exemplary

Hales Corners - Hales Corners Lutheran School was one of seven in the United States recognized as exemplary by the National Lutheran Accreditation Commission.

The school, 5425 S. 111th St., was among those chosen as it demonstrated compliance with accreditation criteria that exceeded expectations related to the educational and ministry standards and demonstrated innovative leadership by implementing best practices related to academic quality and spiritual development of its students.

OCHS Class of 20 holding its 10th reunion

Oak Creek - The Oak Creek High School Class of 2002 is holding its 10-year reunion at 7 p.m. April 14 at the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 S. Howell Ave.
