YOURNEIGHBORS

Luke Jameson Mathers of Franklin earned the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America in August. Luke's Eagle Scout service project involved the construction of a foot bridge at the soccer complex of his Oak Creek school. He planned and organized the installation of a wooden foot bridge that allows athletes and spectators to safely access the lower playing field from the upper parking lot. Luke came up with the idea after seeing the difficulty his own grandparents had getting to the field to watch him play. When Luke spoke with school district personnel about his idea, he discovered that the area of concern was listed as a state wetland. Luke then contacted the Department of Natural Resources for bridge requirements and final approval. With the help of fellow Scouts and friends, Luke directed the construction of the wooden platform and the placement of the special footings needed to erect the bridge.
