Evan Fry of Franklin earned a 2012 President's Award for Outstanding Sophomores from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he has a 4.0 GPA.
Alexander Pisarek of Greendale has been selected for induction into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at Beloit College.
Josh Hintz of Franklin, a senior at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, will be showing his senior thesis artwork in "Raw Gesture," an exhibition of concrete and steel sculptures and charcoal drawings, at the Third Ward campus of the college through May 12. Rachel Beyer, a sophomore setter from Franklin, played on the Marquette University club volleyball Blue team that finished 14th at the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation national championships in April in Kansas City, Mo. The team just missed out on the gold bracket, after taking each of their matches to three games. They advanced to the silver semifinals before ending the season with a loss to the University of Michigan.
Jordan Sabez of Greendale, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been honored as a Recognition of Outstanding Student Employee award winner for his excellent service as a team member with the university's dining and culinary services.
Matthew Mueller of Hales Corners, a Marquette University student, is being honored for best single feature story for his piece "Centipedes and Censorship," which appeared in the Marquette Tribune, by the Milwaukee Press Club during its Excellence in Journalism awards ceremony in May. Matt's movie review, "'Breaking Dawn: Part I' is kind of good ... what?" which also appeared in the Marquette Tribune, was a finalist for best critical review. Mueller is a junior broadcast and electronic communications major.
Jaime Rehm of Greendale is a member of the executive board of the Relay for Life cancer-research fundraiser at Marquette University in Milwaukee, where she is a freshman. She also participated in the overnight relay event in April. Sixty-eight teams consisting of 584 individuals participated in the event.
Joe Mazza, a junior from Oak Creek, has been selected as a resident assistant for 2012-13 at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.
The following students were winners in the 2012 Young People's Art Exhibit in April and will have their artwork displayed in the lobby of the Wisconsin Exposition Center during the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair: from Oak Creek East Middle School, Payton Estis, junior second place for "Each Day & Night," Mahalia Lauters, junior third place for "Untitled," Emily Malweg, special needs second place for "Dream Big," Angelica Romero, best sculpture for "Arlet," and Josiah Wolf, Utrecht Art Award for "Dream House"; from Milwaukee Montessori School, Rowan Winter of Greendale, junior second place for "The Man on the Apple"; and from Franklin High School, Kassie Murawski, senior second place for "Empire State of Mind."
Army Reserve Spec. Jennifer M. Grieve has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. Grieve, the daughter of Michael and Dawn Waite of Milwaukee, is a 2002 graduate of Franklin High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in 2005 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
