Downtown Greendale ready for a Dickens of a Christmas

Greendale - Dickens of a Christmas in historic downtown Greendale will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3.

The event features more than 100,000 holiday lights, Dickens characters, strolling Christmas carolers, bell and chamber choirs, horse-drawn carriages, kettle corn and the presentation of "A Christmas Carol" as a play.

Hales Corners Woman's Club to hold Christmas luncheon

Franklin - The Hales Corners Woman's Club's Christmas luncheon is at 11 a.m. Dec. 3 at Tuckaway Country Club, 6901 W. Drexel Ave.

Socializing begins at 11 a.m., with lunch served at noon. The event includes a presentation on "accessorizing your wardrobe."

Cookies and more available at upcoming church sale

Oak Creek - All Saints Lutheran Church, 9131 S. Howell Ave., will hold a Christmas cookie sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 4.

Various home-made Christmas cookies and candies will be sold at several different container sizes.

Children invited to Christmas activities

Franklin - Franklin children in grades 1 through 6 are invited to make decorations for the historic Whelan School and trimming the school's Christmas tree from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 4 at Legend Park, 9200 Legend Drive.

Children will also learn poetry and songs of the season.

They will participate in the Historical Society's Christmas celebration during the 4 p.m. non-denominational service Dec. 11. The program will reflect how children prepared for a rural school Christmas program in the early 1900s.

Legion Post members remember Pearl Harbor

Greendale - American Legion Post 416, 6351 W. Grange Ave., will hold a Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony at 9:15 a.m. Dec. 5.

The event will also include a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon, with proceeds to benefit Camp American Legion.

Oak Creek business sponsors food drive

Oak Creek - Oak Creek Relief & Wellness, 1900 W. Ryan Road, will hold a food drive through Dec. 17.

Historical Society sets Christmas event

Franklin - The Franklin Historical Society will hold an old-fashioned Christmas celebration Dec. 11 at Lions Legend Park, 9200 Legend Drive.

Children will present a Christmas program with poetry and songs from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Non-denominational services will be held at 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Open houses will be held at the Sheehan-Godsell Log Cabin from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the Old Town Hall from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

It's flu shot time at Franklin City Hall

Franklin - The annual flu vaccination drive at Franklin City Hall, 9229 W. Loomis Road, will be held through Jan. 5.

Vaccinations are recommended for people more than 6 months old and are important for children, pregnant women, seniors age 65 and older and people with chronic conditions.

Woman's Club seeking grant applications

Greendale - The Greendale Woman's Club is accepting grant applications through March 1, 2011.

Grant-seekers should have a description of the proposed project, target group, budget and expected impact.

Applications should be mailed to Greendale Woman's Club, P.O. Box 273, Greendale, WI 53129.
