The pool, 5765 S. New Berlin Road, is open from 1 to 5 p.m.

Aug. 19, 2010 5:08 p.m. | The Whitnall School District is planning a school year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary, and things will kick off with a block party Sept. 18.
The party, from 2 to 8 p.m. in front of Whitnall High School, 5000 S. 116th St., will feature live music, games, food, raffles and prizes.
More activities throughout the year are in the planning stages.

Aug. 12, 2010 8:04 a.m. | With just a few days left of the Wisconsin State Fair, you still have time to score free tickets from NOW Newspapers.
All you have to do is "like" NOW Newspapers on Facebook and respond to our last status update and tell us your favorite story from our papers this week.
A random drawing will be held at 8 a.m. Friday and announced on Facebook.
Winners will receive a four-pack of tickets to the fair, which begins runs to Sunday. Winners will have to pick up the tickets in our Waukesha office, 1741 Dolphin Drive, Suite A, 53186.

Aug. 10, 2010 8:02 a.m. | Like many other school districts in the area, the Whitnall school property tax levy will not rise as much as originally anticipated, thanks to better-than-expected state aid estimates.
Whitnall administrators now project the tax levy rising about 7 percent, compared to the 9.8 percent rise in the preliminary budget the School Board approved in May.
According to state Department of Public Instruction estimates, the district will receive about $407,000 more in aid than administrators first budgeted.
Business Manager Amy Kohl said the district was as conservative as possible to avoid a repeat of last year, when state aid was unexpectedly cut by about 15 percent.
The School Board then proposed a double-digit percentage increase in the property tax levy to make up for the state aid cut, and a big crowd filled the district's annual meeting to protest the tax increase.

July 24, 2010 8:51 p.m. | Muskego defeated Whitnall, 8-2, behind the strong pitching of junior Cole Borek Saturday night in a WIAA sectional semifinal game at Muskego.
The right-hander tossed a complete game for the Warriors, allowing only six hits.
The Warriors were paced on offense by senior Mike Robinson and junior Adam Schulz. Robinson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Schulz was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Warriors had 17 hits in the game.
With the victory, Muskego is moving on to the sectional final against the winner of tonight's semifinal between Waukesha West and Kettle Moraine game. The final is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Muskego.

June 08, 2010 5:04 p.m. | Hales Corners - Citing "staff shortages and budget constraints," the village on Tuesday started closing the main office early two days per week.
Until probably Labor Day, the office will close at 1:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays - 3 1/2 hours early on both days, Village Administrator Michael Weber said.
The village's main office is down to three employees from five, as one position has been left unfilled and one employee is on medical leave, Weber said.
The village will save money by not hiring temporary help to cover the office for those seven hours per week, he said.
Weber said the move was prompted by a reduction in revenue, primarily from diminished earnings on interest. He said the village's 2010 budget anticipated a stronger economic recovery and that interest rates have continued to slide.

June 08, 2010 4:08 p.m. | To address staff shortages and budget constraints, administration offices at Hales Corners Village Hall will now close at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The change goes into effect today and will continue through summer, Village Administrator Mike Weber said in a news release.
Departments affected include planning and zoning, building inspection, public works and clerk/treasurer. Staff will not be available by phone but messages can be left using the office voicemail system.
The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Clinics-New Berlin blog offers health and safety guidelines, as well as tips on injury prevention, seasonal health, parenting and resources for families.
