This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely baby daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Soccer is stupid-Part 75

Soccer is the dumbest sport on Earth.

Want more proof?

Tonight, I timed the WIAA Division I Girls Soccer regional game between Milwaukee Rufus King and Cudahy. At the 73:00 mark, King scored to make it 5-0 with just seven minutes left to play.

With 45 seconds left in the game, King scored again. King 6, Cudahy 0. Moments later, the game was over. King moves on in the playoffs.

But had this been a game in a certain league in Ottawa, Canada, Cudahy would have been hugging themselves as victors.

Huhhh?

What are you talkin’ about, Fischer?

From the truth is stranger than fiction file, The National Post reports:

In yet another nod to the protection of fledgling self-esteem, an Ottawa children’s soccer league has introduced a rule that says any team that wins a game by more than five points will lose by default. The Gloucester Dragons Recreational Soccer league’s newly implemented edict is intended to dissuade a runaway game in favour of sportsmanship. The rule replaces its five-point mercy regulation, whereby any points scored beyond a five-point differential would not be registered.”

Think about that. If you win, 5-0, you win. If you win, 6-0, you lose.

In youth sports, I’m not a fan of pouring on the score. But this is beyond ridiculous.

On the other hand, it’s soccer.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.
