Christmas on the brink of July

State Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) points out how you can make a budget with huge tax increases -- 18 thousand million dollars' worth of tax increases -- go down more smoothly:

You lard it up with goodies.

Lazich, who was on the losing side, alas, pages through the Senate's bits of pork in the budget it passed. There's $1 million to expand a hospital in Oconto. There's $800,000 to build West Allis a bike trail. There's $50,000 for a parking lot at Cleghorn, in Eau Claire County. There's $400,000 for streetscaping along 6th St. in Racine.

And $18 billion in new taxes to fund these sins and all our sins.
