Peppermint Bonbon Cookies

 

 

I believe chocolate qualifies as a food group.  I’m not a purist when it comes to the best confection in the world:  I like milk, dark and even white.  Yes, I am fully aware of the “Is white chocolate really chocolate?” debate.  But if it works for these fine folks, it works for me:

You just can’t improve chocolate, you say?  Well besides all the wonderful combinations of nuts & chocolate, fruit & chocolate and caramel & chocolate there is, I believe, one marriage above all others:  chocolate and peppermint.  It just can’t get any better!

For the first time in my Twelve Cookies of Christmas series I am recommending a cookie that I have not personally made – yet.  Believe me, I am going to.  But as of this blog it has not happened.

When I took out Southern Living’s Big Book of Christmas from the library I had no idea what a feast I was in store for!  Recipes, decorating ideas, gift ideas…  I realized I should have taken the book out in August for a head start!  I’m looking forward to Peppermint Bonbon Cookies becoming part of my Christmas Cookie tradition.  You can find the recipe reprinted on many online sources.  Since I always enjoy reading Confessions of a Cookbook Queen I am linking to her blog.   Kristan mentions that she froze the cookies without the topping and they were great. I believe her.  She has never blogged a bad baking idea.  Ever.

While you may find a rerun or two in the beverage pairings, really, can you ever have enough peppermint at Christmas?  I didn’t think so.

Peppermint Mocha   

 

Syrup:

Peppermint syrup byMonin or Peppermint Syrup byTorani.    

 

Cocktail:

Peppermint Martini (Personally I would use VANILLA vodka but that is entirely your choice.)
