This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely baby daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

JULY 24 - COMMON COUNCIL MEETING (6:30 PM City Hall)

Announcements

Carma Laboratories Recognition, 75th anniversary!  The manufacturer of Carmex Lip Balm is a third- generation, family owned business. The Council will declare July 19th as Carmex Day to honor 75 years of business success.


Public Hearings

Sky’s Riding Stable, 76th Street & County Line Road - A request is being made for rezoning residential land to agricultural zoning for a horse/riding stable. Based on both Plan Commission and staff recommendations, action on this item will likely be postponed on Tuesday evening.


Appointments

Four appointments are expected to be made; three to Finance, one to Plan Commission. The Plan Commission and one Finance position are for aldermanic terms.


Business

New building, Wheaton- Franciscan Health Care - This is a Special Use approval for a 64,800 sq.ft. three-story office building. This new office building would be located at 9969 S. 27th St. (near the current Wheaton hospital).


“Big Box” ordinance
– On Tuesday, the Council will consider a request for amending the ordinance, which if approved, will remove the retail building size limit. This request will be for Planned Development Districts (PDD) only and will not apply to all zoning areas of the city. The proposed Meijer development is within a PDD.

NOTE: The Meijer Development proposal is pending State and Federal permitting related to WisDOT Hwy access and Army Corp/WDNR water quality review. These approvals are required before the majority of actions can be taken at the City level. There is a request to remove an area of land from a neighboring parcel so it can be combined to the Meijer development area, thereby creating a larger parcel. The land area change and the retail building size limit change are on Tuesday’s agenda for consideration by the Council.

Ryan Creek Interceptor (RCI) - This item is a change order for tunneling work to install the RCI under Ryan Creek on S. 92nd St. between W. Ryan Rd. and W. Oakwood Rd.

Forest Hill Avenue prohibited parking request - West side of Forest Hill Ave., from S. 79th St. to S. Forest Meadows Dr. Soccer and flag football events at the Forest Hill Middle School field have raised parking concerns. No Parking signage will be under consideration for the area along Forest Hill Avenue, opposite the fields.

Recycling and Refuse - This is a consideration for changing to closed recycling containers and other provisions for pick-up, related to the John’s Disposal Service contract. The contract is available at city hall and will be taken up for discussion Tuesday evening.

Fire prevention protection and control - Consideration of changes to municipal code.

Modification of the Battalion Chief job description

Changes to the Employee Handbook

Addition of Heavy Equipment Operator position and elimination of the Light Equipment Operator position

Revision of the Custodian job description

Retaining a consultant for a classification and compensation study for non???represented employees

COMMUNITY EVENTS

1ST Mondays,  St. Marin’s Fair (6 am - 2 pm) – The Fair takes place on St. Martin’s Road from W. Forest Home Ave. to W. Church St. on the 1st Monday of every month between May - September.

JULY 28 - Franklin Historical Society’s “Barn Raising” (Legend Park, 1-3 pm) - The Franklin Historical Society will hold a fundraising kick-off to support disassembling and rebuilding a donated historic barn. Viewing historic buildings, as well as activities, cookies and lemonade will be part of this historic experience.

AUGUST 5 - Summer Concerts in the Park (1:30 pm), The Concord Chamber Orchestra - This is an all-volunteer, semiprofessional group of approximately 50 musicians from a variety of professions and backgrounds. Their program will consist of light classics and orchestra pops (http://www.concordorchestra.org/).

AUGUST 6 -National Night Out Kick-off Celebration (6 - 9 pm) - Franklin Public Library. SAVE THE DATE!

AUGUST 9 - Franklin Area Parents and Students United (6 pm) - Franklin Public Library, (http://fapsu.org).
