FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DJ’s Court Tourney Set For Aug. 4 at Franklin High School

Tournament has raised more than $10,000 for Christine Rathke Scholarship Fund

DJ’s Court Tourney, an annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament that honors former Franklin High School basketball star Christine Rathke, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at Franklin High School, 8222 W. 51st St. The time may be extended to 5 p.m., depending on the turnout, which is currently slated for 16 teams. The tournament’s maximum capacity is 32 teams.

The tournament, now in its 12th year, is suitable for male and female basketball players of all skill levels ages 16 and up. Participants can form teams of three or four players (the fourth player serves as a sub), or sign up for the Free Agent Pool, an option that pairs players without teams.

The entry fee is $60 per team if paid on or before Saturday, June 9; $75 if paid after June 9, on or before Saturday, July 21; $90 if paid after July 21 or at the door. The Free Agent Pool costs $20 per person. All proceeds (100%) go to the Christine Rathke Memorial Scholarship Fund.

DJ’s Court Tourney began in the summer of 2000 in a Franklin driveway. It has since grown into a charity basketball tournament to honor Christine Rathke, who was killed in a car crash on Feb. 16, 2003. Because all proceeds from the tournament go toward the scholarship fund, Slater and his family handle the tournament expenses, such as T-shirts, food and trophies.

Since 2003, the year the tournament started raising money for the scholarship fund, DJ’s Court Tourney has collectively raised approximately $10,882. Money for the fund comes from team fees and donations.
