News from Ald. Steve Olson: Meijer Stores Hearing and United Financial/Forest Hill Highlands apartment expansion

Dear Neighbors:

Last week some of you attended a hearing before the Plan Commission regarding the Meijer Stores proposal for the Crossroads.  I appreciate your attendance and comments.  Those of you in attendance heard that the PLAN COMMISSION hearing on the matter would be held open and AGAIN, COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC WILL BE HEARD ON THE RECORD before the Plan Commission again on 7/19/2012 at 7:00pm in the Common Council Chambers.

Also, because the Public Hearing before the Common Council was previously officially noticed and publicized to you, that public hearing (on the record) will still be held TUESDAY EVENING, 7/10/12 BEFORE THE COMMON COUNCIL AT 6:30PM (PROBABLY AT ABOUT 7:00PM).  The Common Council is committed to hearing your comments.  To that end, we’ve offered a neighborhood meeting, a hearing before the Environmental Commission, the first meeting of the Plan Commission last week, the Common Council meeting this Tuesday and the next Plan Commission meeting a week from Thursday.  Please take advantage of these next two hearings to make your voice heard either in support or with concerns.

I’ve indicated in the past and the Business Journal has reported a PROPOSED CHANGE TO THE UNITED FINANCIAL FOREST HILL HIGHLANDS SENIORS APARTMENTS.  A CONCEPT REVIEW will be held at 6:30pm TUESDAY EVENING, 7/10/12 before the Common Council to present their expansion plans and a change in number of units/buildings (reduction) and a partial change to the designation of the use of some of the new buildings to “executive market rate” units rather than seniors only.

United Financial intends to present and take comment from the Common Council (not a public hearing) on the re-alignment of their existing plan approved in the late 1990’s to make better use of their property between Brenwood Park Drive and Puetz Road

I encourage you to attend to gather information about the United Financial proposal and to offer comment on the Meijer proposal.

As always, please let your neighbors know about these meetings and forward this e-mail to your friends and neighbors.

Please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me with your comments or concerns.

Steve
