“Life is one grand, sweet song, so start the music.”

Ronald Reagan

It's Friday night. Time to unwind with our regular Friday night feature on This Just In.

The weekend has finally arrived.

The sun has set.

The evening sky has erupted.

Let's smooth our way into Saturday and Sunday
.

This weekend, my Dad would have celebrated a birthday. We miss him dearly, but we hold on to many wonderful memories, including the music he loved.

Tonight, as I've done in  the past, some selections will be shared from Dad's record collection.

Let's start with a rather appropriate instrumental that was one of Dad's all-time favorites, performed live with not only the traditional take, but a jazzy interpretation as well.

Dad enjoyed watching Andy Williams' weekly  TV variety show. He even started wearing turtleneck sweaters a la Andy.

Williams put out an album of some of the songs he featured on his show. Here's one of them where the singing duo slows down the tempo Williams employed.

Also in my Dad's collection was the Herb Alpert album with the famous cover. And if memory serves correctly, Mom actually purchased it for him!

I'm, of course, talking about "Whipped Cream & Other Delights."

In this medley, you'll hear a couple tunes from that LP.

TV lovers know the new fall season is underway. Tonight on the season premiere of "Blue Bloods" on CBS, Tony Bennett and Carrie Underwood perform their recent recording of a real oldie. From the Great American Songbook, "It Had To Be You" is a standard in many vocalists' repertoire.

Tony, we still love you, especially when you just stick to what you do best.

That's it for this week's segment.

We love you, Dad!

Goodnight.

Sleep well.

Have a great weekend.

Dad really loved piano music, so we close with another of his favorites, a true classic.
