State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Wisconsin part of national trend of smart budgeting

By approving a reduced spending, on-time, budget, Wisconsin is part of an emerging national trend of responsible budgeting states.

According to a Wall Street Journal article, more than half of all states “… considered legislation to try to rein in long-term liabilities such as employee pensions and benefits.”

“Two years ago there was a historic increase in taxes,” Susan Urahn, the managing director of the nonpartisan Pew Center on the States, says in the State Journal article. “This year it was, what can we cut and how deeply do we cut – a pretty significant shift.”

Wisconsin communities are able to maintain services despite budget cuts because communities were given local control to help balance their budgets.
