Dad, husband, baseball coach, writer, community activist and crappy guitar player...I tend to stand a little to the left on most issues. I don't get my news from Fox "News" - and neither should you.
Try and remember back a couple of years ago during the last presidential election campaign - Now try and remember those bumper stickers on the rears of pickup trucks and SUV's that said "McCain" with a small image of an American flag underneath it and the name "Obama" with a small image of the white flag of surrender underneath his name? Remember those? This was the attempt of the lunatic fringe on the right to paint Obama as a president who would surrender America to terrorists.
Also remember May 1st of 2003 when then President George W. Bush, in full flight suit, stood on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln (just 30 miles off the CA coast) and declared "Mission Accomplished"? That was 7 years ago now, and we have just accomplished one of many missions in the middle east.
Also remember just 6 months after 9/11 when then President George W. Bush was asked by a reporter about the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden and Bush said, "I don’t know where he is. I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you."?
Now Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, concealed-carriers and tree-huggers are all celebrating together as Bin Laden has been brought to justice, right?
Wrong! Listening to local right-wing "news" yesterday on 620 WTMJ (and even 102.9 "The Hog") it quickly became clear how the right-wing would respond to the killing of Bin Laden - by claiming it is a hoax by the US government and that we either did not find and kill him at all, or that he has been dead for a long time and we are dragging it out for a news cycle now. The reason the US government is lying to the people according to local right-wing nut jobs - to boost President Obama's ratings for a run in 2012!
They can't even be happy for their current President when he serves justice to one of the world's most notorious mass murderers and terrorists, not that any human death should make anyone happy, but . . .
But it wasn't even right-wing talk radio that gave a voice to such ridiculous right-wing conspiracy theories. I usually get my news from WPR and NPR and their lines were also flooded with right-wingers stating the same lines "hoax" "ratings boaster" "liars".
Personally, I love conspiracy theories - the JFK assasination, Area 51, and even the possibility of a faked moon landing, all interesting if not true, but really, a faked assasination of Bin Laden? Why would we fake his death if in another 6 months Bin Laden could release another video if he were still alive? Time to start using your brain.
Oh, and lay off the birth certificate conspiracty theory too would ya! I think the conspiracy behind how Trump's hair doesn't move in heavy wind gusts is a more mind-boggling debate. If he is the best the Republicans can offer in 2012 - wow, how embarassing! Imagine a Trump/Palin ticket. It is a left-winger's wet dream.
