Last week's heat wave helped the Hales Corners Pool start the 2009 season in record-breaking fashion. A total of 526 people jumped into the water June 17, an all-time high in the facility's 41-year history, said Don Schwartz, president of the Friends of Hales Corners Pool.
Hales Corners — Whitnall School Superintendent Karen Petric has voluntarily taken a one-year pay freeze to help the school district give raises to other non-union employees.

Oak Creek's parade begins at 9 a.m. at Edgewood School, 8545 S. Shepard Ave., and will wind its way to East Middle School, 9330 S. Shepard Ave. The American Legion Post, 9327 S. Shepard Ave., will host a variety of fun activities, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tee-ball and baseball games will be played from 1 to 4 p.m. Fireworks are at dusk. Check out a full schedule of events.

Fun on the FourthIndependence Day festivities in Hales Corners kick off with the Firecracker Four Run at 8 a.m. in Hales Corners Park. Other events include parade judging and children's games at 9 a.m. at Hales Corners Elementary School, 11319 W. Godsell Ave. and a pool party fundraiser from 3 to 10 p.m. at the Hales Corners pool.
